It’s Drilling Time!

We have obtained the permit to drill…Praise God! The well drillers will begin drilling September 26th. It will take about 4 days to drill the borehole, case, and condition the well. This morning I wired the first payment to get things started. The local people around Kalyet School also have invested in this project. They have collected 200,000 Ksh (about $2,100 US). This is quite a sacrifice for these people. When the well is completed there will be a formal dedication cermony with local dignitaries present.

My plan for ministry will be to preach on two Sundays, hold 4 youth gatherings, and encourage local church leaders. The theme will be on youth reaching out to youth who do not know Jesus as Lord and Savior. This well will present unique opportunities to share Jesus with many people. Please pray for our success.

We will also be reaching out to needy families and helping them with money raised for Cheyanne Denniss. The sweet young lady (14 yrs old) who lost her battle with cancer last year. He hearts desire was to help needy people in Africa. I will bring a full report, when I return, on how this was carried out. Please pray that God will guide us to use these funds in the best way possible.

Pray for Our Permit

I talked with Keith Gafner, my missionary contact in Kenya, about how plans were coming along for our 2011 project at Kalyet School. One problem is getting a permit to drill the well. In Kenya it takes time to get things like permits to drill wells. It has been close to a year since applying for the permit and we still do not have one! Please pray that the permit will be obtained before October.

The other parts of the plan are coming together. We have a hydro geological report from the Water Resources Management Authority. A well driller has been selected. Materials are going to be at the site to construct the towers and tanks, etc. There is still so much left to do. Of course money is still need. Money for the project and money for travel. Please pray for God to supply all we need. Thanks!

Plans for Kenya 2011

Plans are underway to drill a community well at the Kalyet School in the Moiben area of Kenya. The Kalyet school has approximately 500 High School students and about 200 Elementary School students. Their daily need for water is about 8,000 gallons a day. That need is not being met as they have no water source at the school. Water must be brought in by a tanker (pulled by a farm tractor) at a premium cost to the school. The qualtiy of the water brought in is always questionable.

By drilling a community well at this growing school, it will allow administrators to pass that savings on to the parents who must pay for their children’s education. Clean water will also mean a healthier life for all the students and staff. In addition to helping those at the school, people in the surrounding community will be able to come and purchase water at a nominal fee. All in all, literally thousands of people will be helped by this community well.

I’ve included some pictures of the school for you to connect with this project. The staff and the students are wonderful people who want to better their world through a solid Christian education.

Kalyet School is doing and awesome job of educating the students of the Moiben area. The local people in the Moiben area are also investing in this project. Kenya Dig It Race a Resounding Success!

What a fantastic weekend! The weather was perfect and the turnout of runners was amazing! There were people here from literally all around the country! We had Michigan runners from, Chelsea, Clinton, Stockbridge, Ann Arbor, Clayton, Manchester, Flatrock, Jackson, Ottawa Lake, etc., etc,!! There were even runners from Phoenix AZ, Denver CO, Baxter TN and Toledo OH. Wonderful people all supporting a good cause and having a fun time too.

A big thanks to Tonia Hawkins our Race Director. She works a full time job, is a full time soccer mom, is active in her church and still is able to manage a huge race with well over 200 participants! Fantastic job Tonia! She always adds something a little extra to make the race and walk special. She is already making plans for next years event. Each year her staff and those who give us feedback enable her to make next year’s race even more exciting. Next year’s race will be on Saturday, July 7, 2012 at 8:00 a.m. We already have some interactive type plans for those who will be doing the 2 mile walk. There is even talk about adding a Marathon and a Half Marathon.

As soon as all the bills are paid and the correct numbers are in, we will be publishing those results on this site. Packet Pick Up for Runners of Kenya Dig It

Runners will be able to pick up their race packets on Friday, July 1 from 8:00 a.m. until 7 p.m. at the Connection Center in downtown Tecumseh. The Connection Center’s address is 133 E. Chicago Blvd. It is located between The Daily Grind coffee shop and Pentemere Wine store. Kenya Dig It 5/10K Race and Family Fun Walk

It is time for our annual fund raiser! The Kenya Dig It race will begin and end at Tecumseh High School, 760 Brown St., in Tecumseh, MI. You can register for the race online at www.kenyadigit.org

The race has a scenic route through a beautiful cemetary, some historic homes of Tecumseh, and then a short route through the countryside. The race finishes on the new athletic complex at Tecumseh High School. The race director is planning for new treats for race entrants and kids alike.

Please get the word out and help us make this the biggest race in Tecumseh. All proceeds go toward the work Living Water Mission is doing in Kenya, Africa.

Trip to Haiti

The Living Water Mission Team is partnering with Bill Farrar of Fountains of Hope installing water purifications systems in Haiti this year. The Team is planning on drilling 2 wells and installing at least one and possibly more water purification systems. Cholera is a big problem at this time. The young lady in the photo was being treated for cholera. Clean water is the answer to this epidemic. Please consider how you might help support this mission. Thanks!
